Counter Culture//Digital Romance

I have a part in an upcoming project by Ian Stout called Dystopia. Currently there is an Indiegogo campaign out there to raise funds. Check out the video above to get a feel for the film.

Old School

So, once every few months I Google myself to see what happens. Yeah, true story. This time, I found a photo from a shoot for Reader's Digest from years ago, back in my punk rock days (okay so I am always in my punk rock days, but I used to be a little more obvious about it). I thought it would be fun to share it here.

By the way, so here's a little context: This was right before MySpace became a phenomenon, BEFORE taking pictures of yourself via the mirror was a cliche'd commonplace. We were trying to create a set up inspired by brilliant photographers who had experimented with mirrors and photography such as the photo seen below:

My Band Live Video from 2/22/12

My band recently played our first show in AGES (due to training up a new drummer) on 2/22/12 at The Know, Portland's favorite dive bar and awesome punk rock venue. The house was PACKED, so many of you came out on a Wednesday night! Here's one of the songs we played. Huge thanks to Brian Brewer for putting this video together.

By the way, if you are interested in finding out more about my band, we are on Facebook and we have a blog, too! It's HERE.

Test shoot for Rotoscoping project

Some photos from a test shoot for an upcoming project by Jason Edwards and Patrick Neary at Stage 13 in Portland. The plan is to rotoscope the characters and add cartoon/comic book like backgrounds so the entire thing looks animated! I've never been turned into a cartoon before... I can't wait to see how the processed footage looks!

And now for a post about music...

Switching gears from film for a minute here... My band Monster-Sized Monsters has officially announced our new drummer: Chad Sixkiller. We are excited to have him on board. He is bringing a new dynamic, full sound to the band and we think this will be a very good direction for us. We also were written up in SSG Music as one of 10 Portland bands to watch for! Check out the article here! Here's an excerpt:
"Proving once again that rock and roll is not a boys-only club, Monster-Sized Monsters fuse the early-nineties, Riot Grrrl punk rock aggression with a bit of the modernized, danceability that has been borrowed from the post-punks by such bands as the Kills and le Butcherettes. If MSM keeps their nose to the grind and finds the right audience, I could really see them going places."    -Nick Hilden, SSG Music

Finally,  tomorrow (Dec 23) my cover band (The Cover Girls) is playing the Ash St. Saloon. The Cover Girls is a nostalgic punk/rock cover band, we play classic punk influenced songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s. I play the drums. So if you're looking to catch some subculture vibes tomorrow night, come on out! I think we are opening the show so come early. 7pm or so. Portland, OR. Downtown at 2nd and W Burnside. 21+ Probably a cover... $5 or less.

Happy Holidays!

AnOther Magazine (Scanned Images)

A while ago I did a photo shoot/story for AnOther Magazine. I posted a blog HERE at the time. It's taken me ages, but I finally got around to getting the pages from the magazine scanned. For the shoot, we traveled all around the outskirts of Portland, Oregon from abandoned buildings, beaches, and space ships to magic overgrown gardens. It was nice to be roughed up, dirty, and punk rock for this shoot vs. normal shoots where every hair has to be in the right place. Here are a few pages from the spread that I am in:

By the way...
Dear AnOther Magazine, if you read this: The only copy of the magazine I have is one my mom found in a magazine shop and bought. I would love it if you could send me a copy, and I know the other girls in the shoot would like a copy as well. Email me at emilygalash at yahoo dot com for a mailing address. Thanks!! -Emily
